Review: Bontragers is pretty much the only textbook for a rad tech program. I really think they would benefit from some healthy competition, because this 200 dollar doorstop is very badly written.

Obviously the 9th edition; its a disjointed frankenstein of copy-paste-delete updating. I assume this is because there was no editor, because sitting down to read through a paragraph can be physically painful. If it was just the typos, the vast plains of rambling text, and the clear-as-mud explainations it would be tolerable. But this book contains contradictions and flat-out wrong information.

The companion workbook is possibly worse, on account of the writers having extreme difficulty converting textbook copy into clear questions. They frequently take a sentence wholesale to make true/false or fill-in-the-blank, which is fine, but the meat of the sentence is not as black-and-white as they think it is.

My exaggerated-for-clarification example:
textbook says "all black things are not white"
workbook says "all black things are not ___"
Unless I have found and read and retained their exact phrasing, correct answers can include: pineapples, green, the queen of denmark, ocelots, sandwiches, etc ad infinitum.

The 10th edition would only benefit from a ruthless copy editor, a good layout artist, and at least 30 extremely pedantic fact-checkers.

Title: Well-made book with essential positioning information

Review: Some of the information in the book is inaccurate, so be cautious.
It's really sturdy for a hardcover and has tolerated being manhandled. The pages are really nice to highlight on because the liquid doesn't smear or bleed through upon application. The positioning pages at the end of each chapter are very helpful. I recommend buying it versus renting.

I also recommend getting the spiral bound version of Bontrager’s Handbook of Radiographic Positioning and Techniques if you have clinical rotations. It fits in most scrub pants pockets, however it doesn't take much to tear the pages, so be gentle.

Review: The only problem I have that some information is inaccurate and hasn't been spell checked.

On page 21, they "Position" as "Position5".
On page 36, Fig. 1.114, the image is in the wrong spot. It says it's showing an image of a portrait PA chest but it's really showing a landscape PA chest. Same problem with Fig. 1.115 but in reverse. It's showing landscape when the image is portrait. The two images need to be flipped.

I plan to update this as I find more errors.

Other than that, it has been a great resource and customer support is really nice.

Title: An atlas for X-ray positioning

Review: the text is excellent and reads easily, far above average for a textbook. It contains text, drawings, photos and X-rays with a clarity that will make it helpful from a radiology student to an experienced radiology tech. No matter what your level you will find new positions and tips to make your job easier.
